LINCROFT – Brookdale’s All-American pitcher, Samantha Hosey, tossed a five-inning perfect game Monday, retiring all 15 batters she faced, as the Jersey Blues battered Middlesex County College 17-0 in the first of two games.

It was Hosey's second perfect game of the season and sixth of her career. She struck out eight batters en route to her 12th win of the season against zero losses, and lowered her earned run average to a minuscule 0.42 on the season.

Her eight K’s ups her season total to 96 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched. She’s walked only 12 batters and given up a paltry four earned runs, with eight complete games to her credit.

Brookdale handed Hosey all the runs she needed, and more, in the bottom of the first inning, scoring six runs on six hits.

Left fielder and leadoff hitter Sara Vocisano, a freshman from Piscataway High School, had two singles and two RBI’s in the inning while sophomore cleanup hitter Cassidy Brzozowski (Howell H.S.) added a line drive two-run single down the third base line. Brzozowski leads the Blues HR (6), RBI’s (42) and is tied with Vocisano with a .516 batting average.

The Blues (31-4, 18-0) tacked on another five runs in the bottom of the second, with the big blow coming off a Alexandra Clayton (Wall Township H.S.) three-run homer that easily cleared the fence in dead centerfield. It was the freshman first baseman’s second dinger of the year and 28th RBI on the season.

In all, the Blues hammered out 18 hits, with Brzozowski going 3-for-4 with three RBI’s, a double and two- runs scored. Vocisano went 2-for-2 with two RBI’s and a runs scored. Clayton finished 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI’s and three-runs scored. Bobbie Boehler (Raritan H.S.), Keara Homan (Manasquan H.S.) and Stephanie Grainger (Howell H.S.) all had two hits and an RBI. Freshman Sara Case (St. Rose H.S.) drilled her second double of the season in the six run fourth inning.

In the second game, sophomore Krystal Pearson (Sayreville H.S.) picked up her ninth win of the season against three losses, going the distance in a five inning 11-1 Brookdale win.

Pearson allowed three hits and one earned run, while striking out six and did not give up a walk in her eighth complete game of the season. She holds a 1.67 ERA with 48 K’s in 66.1 innings pitched.

Freshman Erin Lockwood (St. John Vianney H.S.) and Vocisano each had two hits and an RBI, while Clayton and Homan each drove in two runs.

Brzozowski, Pearson, Ally Latourette (Manasquan H.S.) and Kaitlun Kretzmer (St. Rose H.S.) all added RBI singles. Freshman catcher Morgan T. Schweitzer (Monroe Township H.S.) had the only extra base hit for the Blues, a double, and scored two runs.

Brookdale is ranked No.1 in NJCAA DIII softball, is undefeated in conference play and has won 28-straight games.

They’re at home Tuesday, 4-22-14, for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader against the Monroe College Mustangs (19-12), a DII school.
