Middletown Lions Set Their Sights On Success With Auto Show & Motorcycle Meet 9/21

Middletown, N.J. - GET READY TO RUMBLE!!! Rev your engines and 'roar for the shore' with members of the Middletown Lions Club Foundation(www.mlions.org) and New Jersey Blind Citizens Association (www.njbca.org) on Saturday, September 21 as the two organizations co-host the 8th Annual Auto Show & Motorcycle Meet from 3-7 p.m. at the Middletown Shopping Center, located at the intersection of Route 35 and New Monmouth Road. The annual event, which will feature entertainment for children and adults and special performances of THAT BAND, a popular and talented group of  musicians known for their extensive support of local charities, is being held to fund sight-related initiatives administered by the Middletown Lions Club Foundation as well as programs offered by the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association (NJBCA), a Leonardo-based non-profit organization which supports and advocates for the blind and visually-impaired through Camp Happiness, the main campus on Burlington Avenue in the Leonardo section of Middletown.
The Middletown Lions Club Foundation has been an ardent supporter of NJBCA. Lions throughout the world are known as 'Knights of the Blind' and were challenged many decades ago by Helen Keller herself to adopt blindness as a cause.
The theme of the auto show & motorcycle meet is "HAPPY TOGETHER" and will celebrate the long-standing collaboration between the two organizations. Trophies and plaques will be awarded to all classes of cars including classic, antique, collector, stock, custom, imports, hot rod and muscle. Trucks are welcomed especially along with motorcycles. New this year is an award for both the auto and motorcycle club with the most registered vehicles/bikes. 100% of the event proceeds will fund sight-related programs in both organizations including the free vision screening initiative for elementary-aged school children managed by the Middletown Lions Club. To date, over 5,000 children in school districts such as Middletown Township, Hazlet Township, Red Bank Borough and Matawan-Aberdeen have had their eyes tested free of charge by the all-volunteer vision screening team, known as the 'Knights of Sight.' The foundation needs to purchase and maintain special vision screening cameras which cost approximately $11,000 exclusive of maintenance costs, in order to continue the program, which has operated successfully for four years. In addition, the club underwrites free eye exams and eyeglasses to adults and children who demonstrate financial need. Event proceeds will fund these programs. NJBCA offers social support and educational programming to those who are blind and visually-impaired including computer training, gardening, and special interest groups for those who like to knit and crochet, field trips, and other activities deemed relevant to the membership
To pre-register a vehicle or motorcycle, visit www.mlions.org or www.njbca.org. Registration is $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. Raindate is September 22nd. Sponsorships are available in addition to vendor spaces.
