VFW Patriotic Art Contest Offers Scholarships

Middletown VFW's Ladies Auxiliary is seeking submissions for Patriotic Art Scholarship contest

Area high school students in grades 9 through 12, including those home schooled, are eligible to submit a work of art for entry into the VFW’s 2012 Patriotic Art Scholarship contest.

The Ladies Auxiliary for the will sponsor local entries, which will then be entered into the district, state and national contests. Winners at each level will receive monetary awards. According to the scholarship Web site, national scholarships range from $2,500 to $10,000.

The contest is open to all students, no matter what field they intend to study while at college.

Carmen Peterson, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, also stated that the contest is open to all high school students in the area, not just . Students from Red Bank, Highlands, and other areas without VFW representation may enter the contest through Middletown’s VFW Post 2179.

Entries can be submitted on paper or canvas, using the mediums of water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink, or oil.

Digital art on paper will also be accepted.
