Math is Major at MTRS

Students at Mother Teresa Regional School celebrate Pi Day.

Students at Mother Teresa Regional School in Atlantic Highlands have been preparing this week to celebrate Pi day on March 14th all week. Middle school students prepared for Pi day by playing Mono-pi-ly.  Students move their game pieces around the board by answering questions involving circles and practicing area and circumference calculations. The students made Pi chains to show that there is no pattern in the digits of Pi since Pi is a famous irrational number.  People have calculated Pi to over the one million decimal place and still there is no pattern.

Today, seven students also participated in a Math League competition.  Sixth graders, Steven Clagett and Steven LoPorto, Fourth grader Mark Marullo, and Third graders Hanna Hale, Natalina Leite and Orianna Nolan all represented Mother Teresa Regional School at the competition.  “This was a great way for students to gain experience in using their math skills.  Math competitions are good practice for students in realizing math is important’ noted Mrs. Patricia Hale, middle school Math teacher.

Students in the school have participated in the Christian Brothers Academy Math Competition and the New Jersey Stock Market Game winning third place in that event last year.  Check out the school’s facebook page Mother Teresa Regional School or the website mtregional.com to see how the students did in the Math League Competition on Pi Day.
