Staged Reading of “Valentine’s Day” to Benefit The Foodbank

New York City Playwright Dan McCormick Comes to the Middletown Arts Center for the First Time to Direct the Staged Reading of “Valentine’s Day”
Friday, November 22, 2013 7:30 p.m., Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church Street, Middletown, N.J.

The Middletown Arts Center (MAC) presents a powerful evening of original theatre where lonely strangers meet, hearts break, yet love prevails on a rainy Valentine’s Day. Fresh off the success of his hit play “The Morons," which was nominated for Best Production at the 1st Irish Theatre Festival, New York City, playwright/director Dan McCormick has been invited by longtime friend, actor/producer Jason Mersell to direct his staged reading of “Valentine’s Day." The compelling collection of three, one act plays including “Accidental Encounter,” a finalist in NYC’s Samuel French Festival, will be performed for the first time in New Jersey at the MAC theater located at 36 Church Street in Middletown on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

The exciting cast of "Valentine's Day" includes actors Anthony J. Ribustello from The Sopranos and Be Cool with John Travolta, Jason Mersell, Cindy Carver, Joey Cioffi, Deborah Dutcher and Tamela D’Amico. Stage directions will be read by Freia Titland. Event organizer and cast member Jason Mersell's stage roles have included Matthew in "Sanctimonious Monday", Garcin in "No Exit", and Mitch in "A Streetcar Named Desire". He was recently featured in the independent film "Welcome To Happy Valley."

Mersell has organized the one-day event, in cooperation with the Middletown Arts Center, to help his shore community in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. Net proceeds from the performance will benefit The Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and families still displaced by Hurricane Sandy. A catered reception will follow the performance with a generous contribution by Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe of Middletown. General admission tickets are $30. Call the Middletown Arts Center at 732-706-4100 to purchase tickets.
