White Castle Coming To Port Monmouth; NJ Superior Court Overturns Middletown Planning Board Ruling

Planning Boards decision to deny White Castle site plan in Port Monmouth has been overturned by the Superior Court of New Jersey

It looks as though White Castle will be "sliding" a restaurant onto a vacant piece of land between Main street and Wilson Avenue in Port Monmouth after all. After having their application denied by the Middletown Planning Board last year, White Castle System, Inc. appealed the decision to the New Jersey Superior Court and on March 26th of this year, the NJ Superior Court ruled in favor of White Castle and overturned the Middletown Planning Board.

The ruling by the Superior Court states that all preliminary and final site plan approvals, including site design waivers, to permit White Castle to construct and operate a  restaurant with a drive-thru on property has been approved by the court and can move forward.

It seems now that the area residents, who strongly opposed the construction of the White Castle, will need to hire their own attorney if they wish to continue their fight and appeal the decision of the Superior Court that will be built in their backyards....

I agree it will bring jobs to people here in the area. forget about stereotyping people who go there give me a break!!. i agree with Chuck is regards to traffic light flow for the lights I am for it!!!! we are over due for something like this in our area! i am glad it will happen. and for that lady that thinks that it will bring "the wrong type of people in the area" you are wrong its life! its progress, we just need to be extra careful and cautious for our neighbors... you cant stop progress unfortunately there has been accidents along 36 however there are accidents everywhere rt 35,rt 9,34 etc so unfortunate it will happen with or without another business. i rather it be a food establishment instead of a 7-11 or a Bar.

what does tattoos and peircings have to do with anything? What does race have to do with anything? There are white drug dealers, and police officers with tattoos and peircings its comments like that that make me hope your kids turn out to be untattooed junkies that o.d so you can learn not to be so judgemental the hard way
Joe April 06, 2013 at 03:13 AM
I think it's the fact that people who are tattooed and pierced are typically dirtbags who would frequent fast food joints. Hope that clears up the confusion.

Bullish on Bush: How George Bush's Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger [Bargain Price] [Paperback] Stephen Moore (Author) Bd- the Middletown library called - even they don't want that book back.

I could care less about White castle. yes I live in Port Monmouth. I am reading the comments, and as always the comments turn into a free for all. Joe.. I happen to have several tattoo's and am a grandmother, and Mom and have a career. Do I fit the profile? I think not. I do not eat fast food, BUT that is me. EVERYONE is aloud to his or her own free will..... if ya like it eat it. BUT I think its so funny that every time a new business wants to move in the area, about 80% of the people who live here get all up in arms. Give me a break. I am sure if it was a church people would complain about that too. What a bunch of cry babies. Grow the hell up. Oh lets see now what happens here being Jersey Joe's is up for sale. Someone will start BS about a "new" business comming in there in the future too.

Fish April 06, 2013 at 11:08 AM
Oh and I was 14 when I got the job bussing tables, my tattoos? They are all memorials for family members that have passed away, and a few of them are for my nieces and nephews

You mean the Clinton/Coumo/Reno Community Reinvestment Act and Redlining---the reasons for the economic collapse. You are NOT entitled to your own facts..........
Joe April 06, 2013 at 01:30 PM
Permanently scarring your body with ugly green ink looks trashy and is the look of prisoners and drug addict low lifes. Hate to break it to you, but this is a fad and like all fads, it will pass. The funniest part is that unlike hairstyles or clothing, people with tattoos will be stuck with them forever. I actually like the fact that people are getting tattoos. In an ever increasingly competitive job market, in a job interview, my kids will have an edge over some joker with a big green dragon on his neck or some black squiggly lines all over his arm. Hilarious.
Joy Marie April 06, 2013 at 01:32 PM
I am 33 and I have tats and piercings. I am a straight A grad student with a BA persuing my MA and hold down a job (sometimes 2). Not a dirtbag, tyvm. So, let me get this straight... random drug dealing gang members who have tats and piercings are going to flock to town just to go to our White Castle? *insert eye roll* This is clear because this town OBVIOUSLY doesn't have people who have drug addictions or crime issues. Please. People like that are everywhere. And guess what? They may not even like WC as everyone is different. This is what stereotyping brings us. As for the racist comments, that's lack of education. For the record, half of the students in my grad program are minorities. Intelligent, responsible, hard-working people. I pity anyone who has such a narrow view of humanity as to limit their interactions with people because of the color of their skin. You're missing out on some really amazing people. One of my professors is coated in tattoos and he is the most intelligent person I think I've ever met.
Joe April 06, 2013 at 01:36 PM
I'm sure those green marks all over your body will look great as you get older. Maybe your life would not have been so difficult if you didn't scar yourself up so much and further limit your chances at a decent job. Education is free, all you have to do is show up and put some effort into it. And I expect a thank you from you for paying taxes to maintain our community while you broke the law and paid none. I wouldn't brag about such sleazeball behavior.
Joe April 06, 2013 at 01:43 PM
We are all very impressed. So let me get this straight. You have tattoos, but must tell everyone how accomplished you are, even though you have tattoos? Let me tell you something. I am in charge of a division of a very large company and I will smile and be very cordial, but if someone walked in for a position all tattooed up, there is no way in hell they get past me. To me, it shows recklessness, narcissism, lack of respect for one's body and lack of judgment. Not the qualities I look for in an employee. Feel free to get many more, in fact, dip yourself in a vat of dark green ink. Like I said, better for my kids.
Joy Marie April 06, 2013 at 01:44 PM
My grandfather was coated in tattoos as well. He was a WW2 veteran and a very hard working man. Let's please stop judging books by their covers and get back to the issue at hand. Aside from people who don't want to eat there (then don't), there are other problems. The lot is too small. The area already has traffic and parking problems. It is smack in the middle of a residential area. While I don't see it being across the street from a school problematic from the perspective of kids eating there, it will attract many people within close proximity to the school which could post danger. The town board doesn't want it and the power has been stripped from them. Has anyone considered an online petition through a site like causes.com? Believe it or not, those do prove extremely effective in many cases.
Bayratt April 06, 2013 at 02:50 PM
Joy Marie.. point on. All 3 of my uncles were WW2 Vets, My dad a Marine, my Father in Law also a WW2 vet,,, all had Tattoo's! So Joe..... what do u have to say about that? The problem here is NOT White Castle moving into Port Monmouth, The problem is the narrow minded racist like you. I would fear my children meeting you far more then them eating at White castle with drunks at 1 am! And Joe.. My kids are in their late teens and 20's and one is married, a homeowner, and parent. I would NEVER want my grand daughter to meet someone like you.
christine April 06, 2013 at 03:04 PM
@shoregal..you're correct,I did mistake you for another as to the complaining about your kid eating fastfood, sorry about that! But I still don't think 36 is THAT bad!! Like I said my main concern is the traffic..You know from living so close to that area that we already get slammed in the Summer with Benny traffic and bad behavior..This is really going to magnify that situation 10000X over..I just think it's tough enough paying attention to my driving AND the moron who is NOT paying attention to worry about a bunch of people trying to get in and out of WC..If they MUST build it,they should put it somewhere where the traffic is not already an issue.
Bayratt April 06, 2013 at 03:15 PM
I do agree with the traffic issues. The intersections of Wilson and route 36 and Main and rt 36 are a nightmare any time of day. This project from the traffic point of view does not sound well planned. There really is not enough room for a fast food place in the area. There are plenty of other empty lots along 36 in the area. But I still think no matter where they put it people are going to complain. Look at the new Quick Check on the Navasink/Highlands boarder. The place has only been open 3 weeks and there have already been several accidents. Also the people who live across and behind it have been complaining about the noise.. they have a Music PA system in the Gas station, and it plays 24/7 . The parking lot is a nightmare. Poor planning at the least. The White Castle is comming if you like it or not, but the key to everyone's happiness and saftey is good planning.
MrsD April 06, 2013 at 04:07 PM
Its disgusting to read these comments and how you continue to disrespect each other. Not to mention, that this is completely off topic. Tattooes, piercings, race, religion, occupation, etc- these have nothing to do with White Castle going in this location. Yes, those residents knew they were buying adjacent to commercial zones; however- they could never have imagined they would put a restaurant on those parcels. Iron Horse is right behind them- which is a commercial business and does not interfere with the quality of life or property values.
Joe April 06, 2013 at 04:22 PM
A straight A student who is "persuing?". Ask for a refund
Terry April 06, 2013 at 04:55 PM
Way to go Middletown!! What else can we add to the township that will make it look even TRASHIER? Let's clean house & put people who actually care about what Middletown Twp looks like & does for the residents rather than those who look about with dollar signs in their eyes. By the way, make sure anything looking remotely like trees or plants is removed & paved over and replaced with hard lines & straight edges.....
Paul April 06, 2013 at 07:22 PM
Terry-do you have a reading comprehension problem? Middletown turned this down. It's the nitwit judge that overturned it.
LGA April 06, 2013 at 09:03 PM
I agree! Its OK to voice your opinion, but do it with some civility. I guess when people can be anonymous, they can say anything. The Asbury Park Press had the same problem until went to a Facebook based comment system. In order to post to an APP article, you must be logged into you FB account. That that point you are no longer anonymous and it posts to your FB wall. Believe me, I'm no big fan of the APP, but i think their comment policy is sound. That would also prevent people from having multiple screen names on here. I know the editors read these post - so what's the Patch's position? Just take look at the Matawan Patch, there's and posting about Enzo's pizza, there are way too many comments on there from a few people that sounds like advertising and not real people. One guy George Dz is inviting people to free dinners and totally promoting the restaurant.
Joe April 07, 2013 at 09:44 PM
And your point about White Castle is?
MY town April 08, 2013 at 09:54 PM
Middletown did not approve this . The NJ superior court ruled Middletown could not deny White castle it's application .
Kevin Healy April 09, 2013 at 03:11 AM
Lets see we have McD's on 35, Burger King on 35 & 36, Cheese burger cheeseburger in holmdel, 5 guys in middletown, Middletown diner, red oak diner, pan cake house, applebees, MJ's, sonic, and now White Castle? Will Middletown become the burger Capital of NJ? The should change the sign Welcome to Middletown! Have a Burger!
Mattytas April 09, 2013 at 12:51 PM
People need to eat, and judging by the people I see around town, they are eating a lot.
Joe Cool April 09, 2013 at 02:02 PM
It's better to be the burger capital of NJ, than the Keansburger capital of NJ
MY town April 11, 2013 at 12:47 AM
you left out the mc donalds in Leonardo and Lincroft
Grumpy19 April 16, 2013 at 09:19 PM
It's not next to a school. The nearest school is at 36 and Main. It is also an elementary school. What parent in their right mind would allow their elementary school child to walk along 36 to go to White Castle?
Grumpy19 April 16, 2013 at 09:33 PM
This person that continues to post as Joe, is nothing but negative. On another blog he called someone a liar without vetting what the person has done for people since Sandy. He is not what I would call and acceptable poster.
Mattytas April 17, 2013 at 12:06 PM
Ohhh, so sorry you are upset at people on the internet Grumpy19... :-( sad face...
