The Middletown Township Historical Society meeting on Monday May 19, 7:30 PM, will feature "The Life and Legacy of Cpl. Horace Marvin "Bud" Thorne" presented by his three sisters, Anita T. Keyser, Verna Mauro, and Edith T. Nowels.
Thorne, who grew up in Middletown, was awarded The Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation's highest honor for valor, for his heroic actions in Europe during World War II. The family has long-been dedicated to preserving his memory, and upholding the principles he gave his life for.
On the Monday before Memorial Day, view the video of "Bud"s life, listen to the personal stories, and honor the memory of one of Monmouth County's bravest, the only one from Middletown and Monmouth County, and the first one in New Jersey, to have been honored with this Medal during World War II. Also named in his honor, Thorne Middle School.
The event is at the Society's new meeting place, the Nature Center at Poricy Park, 345 Oak Hill Road, immediately south of the NJ Transit tracks. Visitors are welcome and refreshments will be served.
