James Curti, Coach for More Than 20 Years, Dies at 45

Services are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday

James Curti, 45, of Middletown, died on Dec. 6, 2013. 

He was born in Brooklyn on May 8, 1968 to Walter and Marguerite Curti. He moved to Middletown before the age of three and lived there until his sudden passing.

James was a graduate of St. Mary’s School and Mater Dei High School. He was the President of the St. Mary's Athletic Association, and coached at St. Mary's School, St. Mary's Athletic Association, Middletown Youth Athletic Association and he helped start the St. Mary's Travel Soccer Club.

He coached soccer and basketball for over 20 years and his legacy will live on within the families of  hundreds of kids that he has touched the lives of. He was extremely passionate about coaching and unselfishly gave his time volunteering on and off the court. He was someone you could always count on without hesitation when something needed to get done.  His boys adored him and they were his pride and joy. 

Jim had a smile that could light up a room and was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, uncle and cousin—he will forever be remembered as "friend" or "coach" by many.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Reidy Curti; his two sons, James and Matthew Curti of Middletown; his father, Walter Curti, of Monmouth Beach; his three brothers, John and his wife Debbie Curti of Middletown, Thomas and his wife Jennifer Curti of PA, and Paul Curti of Monmouth Beach; his in-laws, Thomas and Mary Reidy of Holmdel; his sister-in-law, Maureen and her husband Matthew Yetman of Middletown; his nieces and nephews, Tara and Erin Yetman, Taylor, Paige, Michael, Connor, Julie, and Sarah Curti and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

James was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Curti, and two brothers-in-law, Thomas Reidy and Gregg Reidy.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mary Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Rd., Middletown. 

A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
