Middletown Resident Fred W. Rockwell Dies at 95

Rockwell worked as a rigger for the US Navy at NWS Earle until his retirement

Fred W. Rockwell, 95, of Middletown, NJ, died on March 9, 2014 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. He was born in Long Branch and lived in Middletown his entire life. Fred served his country in the US Navy Seabees during WWII and went on to work as a rigger for the US Navy at NWS Earle until his retirement. Fred loved reading, fishing, and going to the beach, especially when he was able to be in the water. He was very active most of his life, rollerblading and riding bikes - and particularly loved to ice skate.

Surviving are his son, Richard and his wife Linda Rockwell; daughter, Cathy Rooney; 3 grandchildren, Ian and his wife Kristin Rooney, Cheryl and her husband Frank Clampffer, and Jason and his wife Natalie Rockwell; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley Clampffer, Matthew Clampffer, and Keira Rooney.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Rockwell in 2008.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 4 to 8 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11 am at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
