Middletown Resident Henry J. Ballasty Dies at 86

Ballasty was a parishioner at St. Mary's and involved with the Mater Dei High School Booster Club.

Henry J. Ballasty, 86, of Middletown, died on March 4, 2014. He was born in New York City and was raised in Garden City, NY.  He was a graduate of Cathedral Prep, Brooklyn and Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington.  He lived in Stamford, CT, before moving to Middletown in 1972. He worked for Continental Insurance for 44 years, with the exception of his time in the Air Force during the Korean War. 

At St. Mary Parish, Middletown, Henry was a lector and Eucharistic minister, and was involved in the parish office, the Mater Dei High School Booster Club, the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, the Perpetuation Adoration Chapel, Irish Night, CCD, and St. Mary’s Fair.  He was a volunteer for several years with the Barn for the Poorest of the Poor, Middletown and was the longtime area coordinator for Holy Name Nocturnal Adoration held at St. James, Red Bank.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Irene Ballasty; son & daughter-in-law, Robert Ballasty & Lorna DesRoses; sister, Sister Bernadette Ballasty, SSND.  He is also survived by his nieces, nephew, and extended family.

Henry was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Ballasty; sister, Sister RoseMary Ballasty, SSND; sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Bures and parents, Henry and Brigid Ballasty.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Barn for the Poorest of the Poor, 39 Bayberry Ln., Middletown or the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Department of Mission Advancement, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, CT 06897-3898
