Middletown Resident Joseph H. Petersen Dies at 83

Petersen was a Korean War veteran.

Joseph H. Petersen, 83 of Middletown, New Jersey passed away on February 24, 2014 peacefully at Riverview Medical Center.  He was born on May 6, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois and lived there until he moved to Middletown in 1970.  Joe graduated from Northern Illinois University and was also a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War.  Joe was an accomplished Regional Sales Manager specializing in industrial adhesives and was the recipient of numerous accolades and awards throughout his career.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Helga, and is predeceased by his sisters, Jean and Bernice.

Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Ann.  He was a devoted father to Kelly Canonico and her husband Gary of Howell, to Brad Petersen and his wife Jocelyn of Howell and to Brook Clarke and her husband Peter of Brick.  Above all, Joe cherished his six grandchildren, Dane, Connor, Hunter, Olivia, Danielle and Renee.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, photographing his grandchildren and known to boast of their achievements.  He was extremely proud of his Danish heritage, was an avid sailor who loved the beach and had a great sense of humor and disposition.  He truly was and will always be “young at heart”.
