Obituary: Antoinette DeRisi Bevacqua, Ran a Variety Store in East Keansburg

She ran a family-owned business with husband Alfred for 30 years, retiring in 1973.


Antoinette DeRisi Bevacqua, 98, died on February 4th in Port Richey, FL. She was born and raised in Jersey City and lived in East Keansburg, Lincroft and Hallendale, FL.

She and her husband, Alfred, owned and operated Al Bevacqua's Variety Store in East Keansburg for over 30 years before retiring to Hallendale, FL in 1973. She loved basking in the sun, doing needlepoint, playing cards, bingo and making trips to the Atlantic City casinos. 

Antoinette was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Alfred Bevacqua Sr; granddaughter, Jeanmarie Grosso; son-in-law, Vincent Mazzeo; and grand son-in-law, David Zocci; as well as her brothers, Nicholas, Michael, and Francis DeRisi; and her sisters, Mary Abel, Lena Brescia and Julia Albe.

Surviving are her daughters, Rosemary Mazzeo of Highlands, NJ, and Marie and her husband James Grosso of Port Richey, FL; her sons, Alfred and his wife Marie Bevacqua of Middletown, NJ, and Anthony and his wife Myrna Bevacqua of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; her grandsons, Anthony, Matthew, Jeffrey, Kevin, and Alfred Bevacqua, and Vincent Mazzeo Jr.; her granddaughters, Judith Mazzeo Zocci, Beth Whitney, Jennifer Bevacqua-delaConcepcion, Nikkiann Grosso Molnar, and Lisa Mazzeo Aldorasi; her 18 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Josephine Morrisette.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Rd, Middletown, NJ.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 12 at 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 am at St Catherine's RC Church, 110 Bray Ave, Middletown, NJ.

Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
