Obituary: Audrey D. Lawless, 77, of Middletown and Manasquan

Lawless was a part of the Harmony School staff and the Mater Dei High School Parents Organization.


Audrey D. Lawless (nee Donegan) of Middletown and Manasquan, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center surrounded by her family, at age 77.

Born in Rahway, January 3rd, 1936 to Christopher and Mary Donegan, she lived in Pennsylvania, Chicago and Middletown since 1962.

She graduated from Melrose Academy and Rosemont College, where she was captain of the Field Hockey team.

After graduation she was employed in the Human Resources Department of Bell Laboratories in Holmdel and Murray Hill.

In 1964 she retired and assumed her role as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid sports fan, but her greatest love was for her family.

She was an attentive and loving mother to John and Christine and encouraged them in their many endeavors, serving as a teacher's aide at Harmony School, Middletown and as an officer at Mater Dei High School Parents Organization.

She was a Communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Middletown and St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan.

She was married for 52 years to her husband, William and supported him throughout his long and successful career.

She is survived by her husband; her son, John of Bristol, RI; daughter, Christine and son-in-law Daniel Clayton, of Brielle; her grandchildren, Matthew and Julia Clayton; sister, Nadine Friedrich of Cinnaminson; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Sunday April 14, 2013 from 4-8 pm at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home 115 Tindall Rd. Middletown, NJ.

The funeral is Monday at 9:45 am at the funeral home, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10:30am at St. Mary's Chapel 26 Leonardville Rd. New Monmouth.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, NJ or the American Diabetes Society, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
