Obituary: James D. McManus, 64, Raised Family in Middletown

James D. McManus

James D. McManus, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013, after a long illness at the age of 64. 

Jim was born in New York City, on March 30, 1948 to the late Katherine and Thomas McManus.

Jim retired from JP Morgan with over thirty years of service. He started his career there working part time while attending Pace University. During his time with JP Morgan he worked in NYC and traveled on business to many overseas locations before transferring to Delaware in 1991. Before moving to Delaware, Jim grew up in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Middletown, NJ in 1978. He loved taking the train to work in the city everyday where he made many lasting friendships. 

Jim lived a life full of laughs surrounded by family and friends. He loved being retired so that he could enjoy more time with his grandchildren and watching them in all their various activities. He loved sports, NASCAR, a good story and anything Irish. He had many wonderful friends and will be greatly missed by all. Jim is a Veteran who served in the Army National Guard. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Christine of 41 years; three children, daughter: Patricia and husband Robert Thompson, son: Brian and wife Kristen McManus and daughter, Erin and husband Tyler Blackwell; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Aiden Thompson, Kaitlyn, Emily and Taylor McManus and Connor and Lily Blackwell. In addition he is survived by three brothers and one sister; Mary and husband Robert McCarthy, Thomas and wife Rita McManus, John and wife Nancy McManus, William and the late Maryelizabeth McManus, in-laws John, Peter and Jane Cokefair and eleven nieces and nephews. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, April 2nd, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, April, 1st at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jim to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Ln., Wilmington, DE 19808.
