Obituary: Joyce Veress, 45

Funeral services for Joyce Veress will be held today.

Joyce Veress, 45, of Middletown, passed away Friday August 3 after battling breast cancer for nearly a decade.

She was born in New Brunswick and raised in Bogota, New Jersey. She graduated from Seton Hall before marrying and settling in Kinnelon with her husband.

She moved with her family to Middletown in 1996 and taught Latin and Holistic Health at Red Bank Catholic High School for most of her teaching career.

She also taught briefly at Georgian Court University after receiving her M.S. degree in Holistic Health at Georgian Court.

For many years at the high school she ran the National Honor Society, helped with fund raisers and worked with children in the Equestrian Club.

She was a good friend as well as a teacher to many of her students. Even while handicapped by surgery, radiation and chemotherapy treatment, she continued to devote her efforts to helping her children get the most from their schooling.

She is survived by her husband Sandor Veress, her children Jacqueline, Michael and Jeanine, a twin sister Nancy O'Connor and brother-in-law, Peter O'Connor of Matawan, a brother Robert Galvin and her parents, Michael and Lois Galvin of Middletown.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated. 

A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7 at 10 a.m. at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road in Middletown. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. For more information, to send condolences or for directions, please visit www.pflegerfh.com.
