Obituary: Nicholas Charles Alfano, 80

Alfano was a former Captain of Belford Engine Fire Company #1, and an American Legion Post 338 and boys baseball coach.

Nicholas C. Alfano, 80, of Belford, passed away at home on August 9, 2012.

He was a longtime resident of Belford with more than 40 years of community service including Captain of Belford Engine Fire Company #1, member of the American Legion Post 338 and boys baseball coach.

Alfano was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1951 until 1955, during the Korean War.He was a respected member of the New York Stock Exchange community for over 30 years, according to an obituary published in the Asbury Park Press.

A lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan who perfected the 12 foot arc pitch in his softball days, he also loved traveling throughout New Jersey watching his beloved granddaughter, Nikki playing softball. He will be truly missed by his softball family.

Nick was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale and Teresa Alfano and by his beloved wife, Judith Hilton Alfano.

He is survived by his four sons, Pasquale Alfano and his wife Nicole, Nicholas Alfano, Timothy Alfano and his wife Karen, and Rick Alfano; his 8 grandchildren, Nikki, Jake, Nicholas, Matthew, Ally, Gina, Joseph and Jackson; his brother, Pasquale Alfano and his wife Marie; his sister, Rose Loschiavo and many nieces and nephews. He touched our lives and many others. We will never look at a Dewars and water the same. We will miss him deeply.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13 starting at 10 a.m. at the John F.Pfleger Funeral Home on 115 Tindall Road in Middletown.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Middletown.
