The Hazlet man hit a utility pole on the road in Holmdel, at the Middletown border.

A 22-year-old Hazlet man crashed into a utility pole in Holmdel on Tuesday night and died, according to police.

Vincent Trejo was driving on Van Schoick Road near Williams Way when his car jumped the curb and hit the pole, then a stop sign and a tree which threw him from his Ford Mustang. Williams Way is a cul-de-sac near the Holland Road intersection.

Det. Sgt. Louis Torres said Trejo took the car from a friend without the owner's consent, and lost control of the vehicle on the runway. Further investigation will include a toxicology report.

Torres said Trejo was speeding when he lost control at 11:53 p.m., totaling the car. Death was pronounced at the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Robert Philhower at (732) 946-4400 ext. 1731.
