Alleged Metropark Carjacker Arrested in Trenton

NJ State Police took Bernard McIntyre into custody October 11 on suspicion he carjacked a cab somewhere between Iselin and New Brunswick.

The suspect in an October 2 carjacking of a taxi cab has been arrested.

New Jersey State Police nabbed Bernard McIntyre at his home in Trenton early yesterday on a warrant put out by the Edison Police Department, according to Edison Police Sgt. Robert Dudash.

The 52-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident, he said.

McIntyre allegedly hailed a cab at the Metropark train station in the Iselin section of Woodbridge last week. But somewhere between the ride between Metropark and the destination in New Brunswick, McIntyre allegedly pulled a gun on the Scooters Cab driver and forced him to drive to Trenton.

The 71-year-old cab driver was released unharmed in Trenton, but McIntyre grabbed the cab, the driver's cash, and drove off with both, police said.

The cab, a 1996 Dodge Caravan, was found abandoned two days after the carjacking in Dover, Delaware, Dudash said.

McIntyre was transported to Edison, where he is being held.

The Edison Police had taken the lead on the investigation, because Woodbridge Police said that since the cab wasn't carjacked within the boundaries of Woodbridge, it wasn't in their jurisdiction.
