Arresting Update from Middletown PD

On Sept. 4 at 5:05 a.m., Patrolman Adam Vendetti was on patrol in the area of the AT&T complex on Red Hill Road when he stopped a vehicle for driving through the complex at a high rate of speed.

Officer Vendetti approached the driver, identified as Joseph Lopez, 21, of Roseville Avenue, Newark. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.

Officer Vendetti conducted an investigation that resulted in Lopez being arrested for driving while intoxicated.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On Sept. 4, at 10:25 p.m., Patrolman David Crenshaw was on patrol in the area of the Shop Rite store when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked near the exit.

Officer Crenshaw approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, identified as Theodore Miller, 46, of Golden Lane, Hazlet, when he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from him.

Cpl. Bernard Chenoweth, who was assigned to a DWI patrol detail, responded to the scene and assisted Officer Crenshaw. Corporal Chenoweth conducted an investigation that resulted in Miller being arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On Sept. 3 at 2:30 a.m., Patrolman James Beirne was on patrol in the area of Harmony Road when he stopped a vehicle for having a light out.

Officer Beirne approached the driver, identified as Patrick Grotheer, 18, of Raymond Avenue, Middletown, when he detected an odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Officer Beirne conducted an investigation and located a baggie containing marijuana in Grotheer’s pocket.

Grotheer was then arrested and was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, a disorderly persons offense.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On Sept. 3 at 4:55 p.m., Cpl. Bernard Chenoweth responded to the , Route 35, in reference to a report of a shoplifting.

Upon arrival, store security advised the officer that they had observed a subject, identified as Albert Shopp, 24, of Summit Avenue, Belford, attempt to steal approximately $80 worth of merchandise.

Officer Chenoweth arrested and charged Shopp with shoplifting.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On Sept. 1 at 5:05 p.m., Patrolman Michael Reuter responded to the area of Route 35 and Harmony Road in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, the officer located one of the drivers, identified as Kathy Thomson, 60, of Avenue B, West Keansburg, standing near her vehicle.

The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.

Officer Reuter then conducted an investigation that resulted in Thomson being arrested for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.
