Police Chief: We Will 'Vigorously' Enforce Underage Drinking Laws

Two memos from the Chief of Police Robert Oches, about underage drinking enforcement and flying the flag at half staff on May 15.

Middletown Township Chief of Police Robert Oches is reminding all parents and teens that strict enforcement of all statutes governing underage drinking will be taken in an effort to safeguard the young people of Middletown.

All police patrols will be conducting vigorous enforcement action against underage drinkers, he said.

All parents are requested to chaperone house parties in an effort to reduce the possibility that underage drinking could lead to a deadly traffic accident.

The police department is available to answer any questions parents may have, and to assist any group in establishing an anti-alcohol program, the chief said.

Flags on all government buildings are required to fly at half-staff on May 15th, commemorating Peace Officers Memorial Day as a gesture to remember the more than 16,000 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

"This is the rarest of honors," Oches said in a news release. "The only other regularly scheduled day that the flags fly at half-staff is Memorial Day."

In 1994, President Clinton signed a law, P.L. 103-322, requiring the American flag to be lowered.
