Cops Say They Found Syringe In Children's Bookcase in Port Monmouth Home

A Port Monmouth woman is charged with child endangerment and drug possession.

A Port Monmouth woman is facing charges of illegal drug possession and child endangerment after police said they discovered she was in possession of heroin and other narcotics -- and was storing a syringe between childrens' books on the bookcase at home.

Susan J. Heather of Wilson Avenue was charged on Oct. 3 with second degree child endangerment by Middletown Township Ptl. Keith Fishbein because was legally responsible for the care of three kids between the ages of 8 and 13, and is alleged to have knowingly put them at risk.

Police said that in addition to heroin, Heather had Zulpidem and Suboxon, Schedule III narcotics; and Clonazepan, a Schedule IV narcotic.

Second degree offenses are punishable by a potential sentence of 3-5 years in jail, if a defendant is convicted.

On Friday, Heather was being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility on $75,000 bail, set by Judge Richard English.
