"Firefighters worked quickly to stabilized the vehicle and deployed rescue tools while EMS personnel provided patient care from inside the vehicle,” D’Arcy said. "The vehicle came to rest in an awkward position and really limited our access to the patient. EMS did a great job of immobilizing the patient in tight confines."

Several EMS units coordinated efforts with the fire company and removed the victim, whose injuries "appeared to be minor in nature," D’Arcy said. "The operator was safely extricated from the vehicle within 20 minutes of our arrival."

Saying that training plays a critical role in emergency responders' ability to work safely and efficiently in challenging situations, D'Arcy added that "given the time of day and road the accident occurred on, things could have been much worse. But being prepared certainly played a part (in the successful outcome).

"I’m proud of my team and the EMS personnel who worked seamlessly to get the job done today."
