Firefighters Extinguish Deck Fire on Borden Avenue

The call came in around 3:39 p.m. Friday of a possible structure fire, but it turned out to be involve only an outdoor deck.

Middletown Township Fire Department volunteers responded Friday afternoon to a report of a fire in the rear of a Borden Avenue house.

A caller reported heavy smoke and a possible structure on fire, said MTFD spokesman John Isaksen. 

Approximately 30 firefighters from 3 companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department (Middletown, River Plaza, and Old Village Fire Companies), under the command of Department Chief John D’Altilio, responded to the 3:39 p.m. call.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters found a fire on the deck attached to the rear of a structure a few houses away from the site of original report. At 24 Borden Road, firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which did not involve the main structure. 

Also assisting at the scene were the MTFD Air Unit and Fairview and Leonardo EMS units.

There were no reported injuries.  

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Prevention Bureau.
