Highlands Man Indicted On Attempted Murder Charge
John Nesti is accused of trying to shoot another man over a generator on Oct. 31, 2012 -- just after Sandy hit the Jersey Shore.
A Monmouth County Grand Jury handed up an indictment today charging John R. Nesti, 48, of Bedle Place in Highlands on first-degree attempted murder with a weapon back on October 31, 2012.
On that day, which was the day after Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey, Nesti reportedly got into an argument with a neighbor over a generator. Nesti allegedly sprayed pepper spray at his neighbor and then went back into his house and returned with a gun which he fired at the neighbor, but missed, according to a report in the Atlantic Highlands Herald.
Nesti faces second-degree aggravated assault charges with a weapon for allegedly pointing a firearm at his victim; a charge of having a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and having an unlicensed weapon and making terroristic threats.
An indictment is a formal charge by the jury; it is not a conviction.
