UPDATE: Man in Custody After Police Converge on West Keansburg Home

No injuries were reported, but homes evacuated as precautionary measure.

A man is in custody after authorities gathered at a residence in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet near Laurel Avenue and 4th Street Sunday night.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Public Information Officer Charles Webster confirmed the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team, the area's specialized law enforcement tactics team, was called to the scene by Hazet Police Chief James Broderick after the department received reports of shots fired in the area, Webster said.

No injuries have been reported and authorities later confirmed that shots were not actually fired, he said.

Laurel Avenue was closed between 7th and 2nd Street. Homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to Webster.

Anthony Chiappone of Hazlet said he was passing through the area around 7:30 p.m. when he noticed the Monmouth County Mobile Command Center set up, and police officers coming in cars from places like Manalapan, Ocean Freehold and Wall Township, as well as Hazlet Township. "I started seeing guys walking down the street in body armor," he said from the scene. "There's definitely at least 20, not counting all the regular police."

The home was searched and no one else was found inside, Webster said.

This is a developing story. Patch will have more information as it becomes available.

The story was hardly serious, If the guy was a danger to anyone he would have had charges Filed against him. It was a NON story, overblown as usual.

It's "Keansburg Heights".

Not "Keansburgh Estates"? Seems as though that would be more in keeping with the town's roots than, say "North Middletown."

Okay, Okay - "The Estates at Keansburgh". There's so much we can do. At one time, my mailing address was "North Middletown". I called it "Keansburg Heights" but still didn't feel it was pompous enough. So I moved to Navesink.
