Man Accused of Threatening Victim with Knife, Injuring Three Middletown Cops

The 56-year old man from Kenilworth is being held in county jail.

A Kenilworth man is charged with threatening a woman with a knife and injuring three police officers in an incident Saturday in Middletown, according to complaints filed in Superior Court 

John Balzer, 56, of South 23rd Street in Kenilworth is facing four charges of aggravated assault, two charges of threatening to kill someone, unlawful possession of a folding knife, violent behavior, and resisting arrest. 

Balzer allegedly pushed an officer through a glass door, causing abrasions and a wrist injury. A second officer was cut by the glass. He is charged with pushing a third officer, and grabbing his uniform.

Balzer is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Facility on $42,000 bail, set by Judge R. Thompson. 

His first appearance before a judge is scheduled for May 27.
