Middletown Fire Department Battles Flames in East Keansburg Home

Smoke billowed out of an East Keansburg home as the Middletown Township Fire Department arrived on the scene Saturday night.

The department was alerted to a fire at 1 Monmouth Avenue just after 8 p.m. on June 15, according to John Isaksen, the department's public information officer.

About thirty firefighters from the East Keansburg and Port Monmouth fire companies responded to the scene under Department Chief John D’Altilio's command.

Firefighters deployed a hose line to battle flames inside of the house, according to Isaksen. The source of the smoke was found in the walls of a storage area on the second floor and quickly brought under control. A hole was cut in the roof to help ventilate the heat and smoke from the home.

The fire was out by about 8:15 and no injuries were reported, according to Isaksen.

The Middletown Township Fire Department Air Unit and the Middletown and Port Monmouth first aid squads also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation  by the Middletown Township Fire Prevention Bureau.
