Middletown Issues Alert As Region Braces for Arctic Air

Temperatures will drop Monday night to Wednesday morning, according to National Weather Service

With a wind chill advisory issued by the National Weather Service, Middletown's Office of Emergency Management has issued a warning that residents should be prepared for the incoming cold.

"Take all necessary precautions and travel carefully," reads an alert issued by the township. "Although roads have been treated, salt brine is significantly less effective when temperatures fall below 20 degrees."

The NWS said that an arctic air mass will bring bitter cold and potentially dangerous wind chills beginning late Monday night through Wednesday morning. Wind chill values could reach 15 degrees below zero, according to the service.

Prolonged exposure to the cold could cause hypothermia and frostbite, the NWS warns.

In the event that power lines are damaged, residents are asked to call 1-888-LIGHTSS, or 1-888-544-4877, the township said.
