A Middletown man remains jailed after authorities charged that he intended to distribute drugs and struck a township police officer in an attempt to escape arrest on Saturday.
Police said that Michael J. Stefuryszyn, 20, of Belford, allegedly possessed 29 decks of heroin with the intent to distribute the drug, according to a complaint complaint filed Sunday.
Stefuryszyn also possessed crack cocaine, according to authorities.
Police also charged that Stefuryszyn “did knowingly punch” Middletown Cpl. Bernie Chenoweth with a closed fist in the chest, then fled on foot in an attempt to avoid arrest, according to the complaint.
Stefuryszyn remains jailed on a total of $25,000 bail, no 10 percent option, for the offenses, according to Monmouth department of corrections records.
