Middletown Man Indicted on Resisting Arrest, Assault Against Officer Charges

A man has been indicted on aggravated assault and resisting arrest charges stemming from an incident in Asbury Park in Feburary, according to the indictment signed by Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter Warshaw.

Gregory Stanley, 22, of 14 Smith Place, Middletown, allegedly resisted arrest by trying to prevent police from “effecting an (his) arrest by “using or threatening to use physical force or violence against the law enforcement officers” in a Feb. 5 Asbury Park incident. The resisting charge is a third-degree crime.

Stanley is also accused of aggravated assault on a police officer, a third-degree crime, for allegedly intentionally attempting to cause or causing bodily injury to the arresting officers, the indictment said.

The third count of the indictment alleges that Stanley committed aggravated assault against an officer by specifically “throwing bodily fluid” at him, the indictment said. It did not specify what type of bodily fluid was used as the means of alleged assault.
