Middletown Man Racked Up $1,000 in Stolen Gas Charges, Police Allege

Man also accused of stealing electrical service

A Middletown man was charged with stealing a gas meter from a neighboring property and using it at his home to rack up more than $1,000 in charges.

Michael D. Finnegan, 26, allegedly stole a New Jersey Natural Gas meter valued at more than $200 from 620 Park Ave. and installed it at his residence, number 617 on that same street, according to a criminal complaint lodged by police on Jan. 23.

In addition to allegedly stealing gas service, Finnegan was charged with stealing more than $500 of electrical services from another neighboring home, 619 Park Ave., according to the complaint. Police alleged that the service was stolen through electrical extension cords.

Finnegan remains lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on a total of $15,000 bail, no 10 percent option, according to inmate records. He is scheduled for a first appearance in court on Feb. 10.
