UPDATE: Police Identify Victim, Driver in Fatal Crash at Route 36 at Wilson Ave.

Police release the name of the victim and driver in a fatal accident Oct. 21 at Route 36 South and Wilson Avenue.

UPDATE Oct 23, 9 a.m.

Middletown Police said Tuesday that the victim in Sunday night's fatal motor vehicle accident was Erica L. Hamdan, 31 from the Port Monmouth section of Middletown. She was struck and killed while crossing the intersection with another pedestrian.  Police report the vehicle that struck her was driven by Jordan E. Bishop, 23, of Long Branch.

A 31-year old woman crossing the intersection of Route 36 South and Wilson Avenue was struck and killed by a car Sunday at 8:06 p.m. Sunday night.

According to Middletown Police, the victim was from the Port Monmouth section of Middletown and was crossing the roadway with another person. 

The female victim was treated at the scene and transported to Riverview Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 8:54 pm.

The vehicle that struck her was operated by a 24 year-old man from Long Branch.

Names were not released by police. 

The highway to be closed for about two hours.

The crash is being investigated by Cpl. Cliff O’Hara and Ptl. Darren Simon of the Middletown Twp. Police Traffic Bureau. Police ask that anyone who witnessed the crash should contact the Traffic Bureau at 732-615-2045

Middletown Police were assisted at the scene by Middletown E.M.S., Monoc Paramedics, Middletown Fire Department, Middletown Fire Police, NJSP Incident Management Team and NJDOT Highway Response Team.
