MTPD Schedules Safety Seat Checkpoints

Middletown Police will hold five different checkpoints dates this summer.

Make sure your young one is safely secured in their safety seat this summer with help from the Middletown Police Department.

The Middletown Police Department will hold child safety seat checkpoints this summer to help the township’s youngest residents buckle up for safety. Police officers trained as child passenger safety technicians will assist motorists with proper child safety seat installation as well as proper positioning and harnessing of a child.

The 2012 checkpoint schedule will begin towards the end of June. The first date is Friday, June 29 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. The next checkpoint will be held on Friday, July 20 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. followed by a Saturday, July 28 checkpoint from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. In August, there will be two checkpoint dates. The first will be Friday, Aug. 3 and the last on Friday, Aug. 24. Both of the Aug. dates will run from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Checkpoints will be held at . No appointment is necessary. In the event of severe weather, rain dates will be announced. Checkpoints are free and open to the public.

The checkpoint program is funded through a grant from the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety. Please remember state law requires that all children below the age of 8 years or less than 80 lbs. in weight must be seated in a child restraint system.
