Navesink Basement Fire: No One Hurt

The Middletown Township Fire Department had the fire out in 20 minutes.

The cause of an early morning basement-originating fire in the Navesink section of Middletown has not yet been determined.

And no one was injured in the blaze at 291 Hillside Avenue that was extinguished within 20 minutes, Middletown Township Fire Department spokesman John Isaksen said.

This morning, Sunday, Oct. 9, the fire deparment was dispatched to the scene of the single family home. By the time firefighters arrived, the home's occupants had already evacuated safely, as flames and smoke emanated from the basement window on the side of the house, Isaksen said.

"Approximately 45 firefighters from the Navesink, Community, and Brevent Park fire companies, under the command of Deputy Chief Andy Spears, extinguished the fire in 20 minutes," he added.

The Middletown Fire Department Air Unit and Leonardo First Aid Squad also assisted, Isaksen said.

The fire is now under investigation by the Middletown Township Fire Prevention Bureau, he said.
