On April 10 at 12:44 a.m., police responded to a residence on Thompson Avenue in reference to a report of a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival police began checking the residence when two subjects exited the house and fled the scene.

Patrolmen Donald Coates and Lawrence Seymour chased the subjects and located one of them, identified as Michael Miller, 22, of 9th Street, Belford, hiding in a nearby yard.

Miller was held while police continued their investigation. The officers determined a burglary had not occurred.

Miller, however, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was released on a summons pending a court appearance.

On April 10 at 12:55 a.m., police responded to the area of Burlington Avenue in reference to a possible burglary in progress. While checking the area, Patrolman Greg Buhowski located three subjects walking on a nearby street.

Patrolman Buhowski stopped to speak with the subjects; and as a result of his investigation a 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested and charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, a disorderly persons offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was processed and released to his father pending a court date.

On April 10 at 7:15 p.m., police responded to the Foodtown store located on Route 36 in the Port Monmouth section of the township in reference to a report of shoplifting. Upon arrival they were advised by store security that they had observed Heather Lenhart, 35, of 7th Street in the Belford section of the township, allegedly placing several items to include cough syrup, chocolate bars, juice, socks and miracle grow in her purse and then attempting to leave the store.

She was detained by security and was then arrested by Patrolman John Mele and charged with shoplifting. She was released on a summons pending a court date.

The information concerning the above arrests was obtained directly from the Middletown Township Police Department's records. While all suspects have been arrested and charged with the named offenses, convictions depend on the outcome of court appearances. All are presumed innocent until proven guilty in that court
of law.
