On the Beat with Middletown Police: Arresting Update, June 18-21

The following arrest information was supplied by the Middletown Township Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Middletown police recently arrested several people on various charges: underage possession of alcohol, false reports, heroin possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On June 21 at 12:15 a.m., Corporal Douglas Wiatrak conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Oak Hill Road and Route 35. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from the interior of the car.

Corporal Wiatrak conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrests of: Damian Newell, 18, of Nautilus Drive, Leonardo; Joseph Gambardella, 18, of Michael Drive, Middletown; and, Brett Williams, 19, of Nautilus Drive, Leonardo. All were charged with underage possession of alcohol.

All three were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released pending a court date.

• On June 19 at 8:25 p.m., Patrolman Michael Reuter responded to a residence on Oakdale Drive in reference to someone making false reports to the police department.

The person, identified as Janis VanNortwick, 42, of Oakdale Drive, Middletown, was continuously calling the police department reporting incidents that did not occur.

Office Reuter conducted an investigation that resulted in VanNortwick being arrested for false reports to law enforcement.

She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

• On June 18 at 2:15 p.m., Patrolman Christian Clark responded to a residence on Michael Drive in reference to a report of a 17-year-old female who was out of control and attempting to leave the residence.

Upon arrival, Patrolman Clark conducted an investigation that resulted in the female being arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession of a hypodermic syringe.

She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released to her parents pending a court date.

• On June 18 at 12:05 a.m., Patrolman Frank Mazza responded to the area of Thompson Avenue in reference to a report of a vehicle that struck a fence.

Upon arrival, the officer conducted an investigation that resulted in the recovery of a glass pipe and a metal pipe used to smoke controlled dangerous substances. The driver, identified as William Smith, 36, of Thompson Avenue, West Keansburg, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and was issued several motor vehicle summonses.

He was processed and released on his own recognizance pending a court date.
