On the Beat with Middletown Police: Arresting Update, May 10-15

Police made several arrests based on various charges: DWI, simple assault, marijuana possession

On May 15 at 10:40 p.m., Patrolman Raymond Sofield was on patrol in the area of Route 35 when he observed a vehicle swerving in the roadway.

Officer Sofield stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Edwin Martinez, 49, of Forest Avenue, Keansburg. While speaking with Martinez, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

The officer continued his investigation which resulted in Martinez being arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failing to maintain a lane of travel, all motor vehicle offenses.

Martinez was released pending a court date.

On May 13 at 12:50 a.m., Patrolman James Beirne and Corporal Bernie Chenoweth responded to the area of Apple Farm Road in reference to a subject who was refusing to pay his cab fare and was screaming at the cab driver.

Upon arrival, the officers located the subject, Brendan Corridon, 30, of Corn Lane, Middletown, who was intoxicated and was yelling at the cab driver while attempting to strike him with his fists.

Corridon was placed under arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 13 at 1 p.m., police responded to Middletown High School North in reference to an assault that had taken place in the assistant principal’s office.

Upon arrival, Patrolman Charles Higgins was advised that a 17-year-old female student had walked into the office and had assaulted a 16-year-old female student.

Patrolman Higgins conducted an investigation which resulted in the 17-year-old female being arrested and charged with simple assault. She was processed and released to her mother.

On May 11 at 4:45 p.m., Patrolman Jason Caruso assisted the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force Bayshore Unit with arresting Andrew Mullins, 24, of Monmouth Parkway, Middletown, on warrants signed by the task force.  The officer located Mullins at his residence and took him into custody.

While arresting Mullins, Caruso located a baggie which contained what he identifid as marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana in the bedroom where Mullins was taken into custody.

The officer conducted a further investigation which resulted in the arrests of Christopher Duley, 20, of Doris Lane, Middletown, and Ryan Dunn, 29, of Walnut Street, Keyport, who were also present in the room.

Duley and Dunn were each charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly persons offenses. They  were released pending a court date.

Mullins was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a prescription legend drug and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.

On May 10, Detective Adam Finck arrested and charged Corey Throckmorton, 25, who currently resides at Wagoner Prison in Bordentown, with Burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with a burglary that took place on March 5, 2008 at the Raceway Gas Station, Route 35, Middletown. 

Throckmorton was charged after evidence found at the scene at the time of the burglary linked him to the crime.

On May 10 at 8:35 p.m., Sgt. John Werner was on patrol in the area of McMahon Park when he observed a suspicious person in the area of the hockey rink.

Sgt. Werner approached the subject, a 16-year-old male juvenile, and conducted an investigation which resulted in the discovery of a switchblade knife with a brass knuckle handle being found on the juvenile.

The juvenile was arrested and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon. He was processed and released to his parents.

The information concerning the above arrests was obtained directly from the Middletown Township Police Department's records. While all suspects have been arrested and charged with the named offenses, convictions depend on the outcome of court appearances. All are presumed innocent until proven guilty in that court of law.
