Man Stole $1,500 Worth of Goods from Sears, Police Charge

Matawan man allegedly walked out of Middletown store wearing stolen shoes

A Matawan man was charged with shoplifting from the Middletown Sears after authorities alleged he stole more than $1,500 worth of goods from the department store over the weekend.

Alexander C. Gick, 53, was charged with stealing “various forms of merchandize as well as Reebok sneakers that were taken out of the box and worn out of the store,” an Oct. 27 criminal complaint reads.

In total, authorities said that $1,548 worth of goods was taken from the Route 35 store. Gick allegedly carried the items out in Sears shopping bags, according to the complaint.

Gick, who lives on Crest Circle in Matawan, remains in the Monmouth County Jail on $5,000 bail, according to department of corrections records.
