Police Investigating Route 36 Pedestrian Crash Tuesday Morning

The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m., at Route 36 and Avenue D in Middletown Township.

A Leonardo resident was injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 36 Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m.

The police Traffic and Safety Bureau is asking for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact headquarters at 732-615-2045. 

According to police, 41-year old Peter Amato of Leonardville Road was crossing the highway on foot when he was hit by a car going westbound, driven by Lynne Ciuro of Atlantic Highlands.(Police did not include her age in their release.)

The victim was treated at the scene by MONOC Paramedics and transported to Jersey Shore Trauma Center.

The crash is being investigated by Sgt. First Class Fred Deickmann and Cpl. Nick Caprio, assisted by Ptl. Adam Colfer, Felipe Benedit and Det. First Class Peter White.
