Police: Lincroft Man Tried to Headbutt 3 Red Bank Officers

A Lincroft man and a Highlands man are accused of assaulting police officers in separate headbutting incidents over Memorial Day weekend.

If this keeps up, Red Bank police might want to look into helmets. Two Monmouth County men were involved in headbutting incidents with Red Bank officers in separate encounters over Memorial Day weekend.

On Tuesday at 12:05 a.m., patrol cars arrived outside Domino’s Pizza in response to a man shouting and cursing outside the restaurant. When police took 23-year-old Lincroft resident Peter Mullen into custody, he allegedly tried to headbutt, elbow and kick Patrolwoman Heather Publyski, Patrolman Stanley Balmer and Patrolman Ashon Lovick. According to the arrest warrant, Mullen is accused of digging his nails into Balmer’s bicep so hard he broke the officer’s skin.

Mullen faces three charges of aggravated assault as well as counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was remanded to Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $55,500 bail.

In the second incident, which occurred Sunday, authorities  after responding to reports of a bar fight at Walt Street Pub. Soza allegedly headbutted Patrolman Thomas Doremus, causing a facial injury to the officer. He was charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and resisting arrest, according to the arrest warrant. His bail was set at $36,500.
