An Old Bridge man who police suspected was in possession of six wax paper heroin decks allegedly attempted to avoid arrest on Thursday by trying to throw a punch at a Middletown officer during a foot chase.

Middletown Police Patrolman Nicholas Fenezia arrested Robert D. Rezac, 32, of Madison Garden and charged him with illegal drug possession, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and contempt of court warrants from three municipalities.

He has been released from the Monmouth County Correctional Facility after posting $52,000 bail set by Judge Richard Thompson.
