Police: Middletown Man Assaulted Officer, Fled on Bike

Shannon M. Lecompte also accused of possessing heroin.

A Middletown man allegedly assaulted an officer and attempted to flee via bicycle, according to court documents.

Shannon M. Lecompte, 29, of Navesink Avenue, was arrested on Monday and charged with drug possession, obstruction, and resisting arrest.

According to court documents, Lecompte allegedly fled from Middletown Township police officers on a bicycle.

Patrolman James Beirne tried to pull Lecompte to the ground in an attempt to restrain him. Lecompte allegedly struggled against the officer resulting in an injury to the Beirne’s middle right finger.

Lecompte was allegedly in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, specifically glassine envelopes, at the time of the arrest.

Lecompte is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $30,000 bail, the arrest record indicates.

Patrolman Adam Colfer was the arresting officer.

Lecompte is scheduled to appear in court 9 a.m. on August 27.
