Middletown Police: No Suspect in Wendy's Bomb Threat

No explosives were found when police searched the fast food restaurant on Route 35.

A bomb threat at on Monday afternoon proved to be a false alarm, according to Lt. Steve Dollinger of the Middletown Police Department.

"There were no explosives found at Wendy's and there are no suspects, nor is there anyone in custody," Dollinger wrote in an email to Middletown Patch.

Wendy's Manager Phil Velasquez received a call reporting a bomb in the building shortly after 4 p.m.

"[The caller] said there was a bomb threat and we had 60 seconds to get everyone out of there," he said. "I said, 'Are you serious, because I’m going to call the police.' Then they hung up.'"

Velasquez quickly urged customers and employees out of the building and phoned authorities.

Middletown Police blocked off entrances to the Wendy’s, which is located on Route 35 North across from the Staples shopping center, as a K9 team searched the perimeter. Middletown police concluded their search of the building by 4:45 p.m. when employees were observed returning to the building. The parking lot entrances reopened at that time, though Middletown police remained on the scene past 5 p.m.
