Most of those moving to middletown from staten island or brooklyn are affluent enough to get out of those awful places and purchase a descent house here. IN my experience around here the great majority of those arrested for drug possession/dealing are locals who have been here for some time. There's been plenty of "garbage" around these parts in certain areas for many many years.

It's really sad to see and hear about the younger Adult's and Teen's that are Addictt to all kinds of really bad drugs that are out there on the streets in today world. I really blame the parents for their kids getting hook on drugs. The Parents needs to tell their kids about the dangerous of taking drugs about what it can do to you and that you will someday died from taking drugs. The Parents need to remind them over and over again even if your kids start to hate hearing about you telling them about doing drugs. Parents much make sure your kids understand the dangerous of taking drugs. I also would like to see the school's tell the kids as well about the dangerous of doing drugs.

Lauren, most times the truth is blanketed in ignorance. People who have never had to deal with the true hardships of a family member or good friend who is a victim of the disease that is drugs don't know how else to handle the situation so they sit in judgement. Everyone wants to think that that these things would never happen to their son or daughter because they are good parents and have constantly taught them right from wrong, until the day when it is their own child that is struggling through an addiction. I used to be one of those parents. I used to spend every waking hour trying to keep my children from harm. Making sure that I wasn't their best friend but rather their strongest and counselor that restricted them from anything I thought would put them in harms way. Until I found out about my own child's addiction. That is where my glass house was destroyed. The truth is, our beautiful town is plagued with drugs and it's destroying the very fiber of our society. Our youth in Middletown, particularly the ages of 16 -24 are being targeted by marijuana dealers, dope pushers and most of all PILLS. These terrible parasites are making away with all of our money and our kids lives and futures. More has to be done on the war with drugs. More has to be done in our schools. The DARE program is nice, but in no way shape or form is it enough. We need measured responses to those who choose to deal drugs and litter our neighborhoods with these so called fashion drugs.

Lauren, I am sorry that your friend is suffering through this serious issue. I pray for her and the rest of the youth in our country. May God grant them the serenity to accept the things they cannot change, courage to change the things they can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Wow. Most of the White Trash drug users in town are born and raised in Middletown /North Middletown LOL. New Yorkers who sold there homes for a very nice amount and moved to Middletown only raised your property value .

Ed from middletown you couldnt be more right on with everything youve said. Years ago if you lived in middletown and wanted heroin you had to drive all the way to elizabeth or further... Fast forward to now the heroin is found up and down hwy 35&36 and no need to drive far. It seems to me with all of the revitalization of towns an the addition of low income housing and section 8 being more accepted in our bayshore area that the $cumbags who sell are right next door to us. Lets not forget about the murder a few months ago that was surrounded by dope among other things... Gee, who was that animal arrested for it? Hmmm pretty easy to see how the massive demographic change has altered our town an the accessability of hard drugs to our kids.

I grew up on Staten Island (as did my parents and granparents), in one of the less affluent areas (port richmond). Since the late 70's Staten Island has become a cess pool, and this includes the south shore. Rampant overdevelopment, and the "wanna be" attitude of too many of the residents has destroyed what was once a pretty nice place.

Ed, please stop the BS with calling drug abuse a "disease." What, did a drug abuse germ jump out and infect them? I have a close relative with prostate cancer and another with diabetes. Those are diseases. This punk is a dealer who was going to peddle that garbage to destroy more lives. I wish society could just make these dealers disappear - if you know what I mean. As for Democrats moving into Monmouth County from NY - there may be something to it. Look at what happened in Hazlet and Matawan. The irony is, these knuckleheads move down here for the quality of life that was created by Republicans, and vote for the people who created the cesspool they are running away from..

I wish you would open your eyes and see that it has nothing to do with your new neighbors from the north and it has to do with your children and the changing times. It's 2012 AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE EXPOSE TO SO MANY THINGS BOTH GOOD AND BAD THROUGH THE MEDIA, INTERNET, MUSIC AND FRIENDS. All you can do is open their eyes to what can happen when bad/ wrong choices are made. Please try to steer you children and not blame their mistakes on others.

I'm amazed at the ignorance. I just don't know what else to say. I shouldn't be amazed at the ignorance because it seems to be endemic here on the bayshore. However the characterization of people from the "north" bringing their problem lives here reminds me of those who more than 100 years ago blamed societal declinef on those people from the 'south.' Tarring all with the same brush is not only unfair, but patently ignorant. At one point or another, your people (whomever you are) were "those people." We are all from somewhere else.
Also, there will always be people who will seek out illicit or licit drugs, always was that way and always will be that way. An enlightened drug policy with efforts directed towards vocational rehab and away from spending huge amounts of time and money fighting the ubiquitous weed user makes a lot more sense. Anyone who needs heroin is self-medicating, just as the alcoholic or chronic user of any mood altering drug is doing. It's time to get ourselves out of the habit of blaming the victim and take the steps an enlightened society should be taking in reclaiming the lives of so many who could be saved from this scourge.

Also, my families existence in this area may be traced back to the American Revolution. I'm not aware of a single drug problem in my family tree..

first of all it is a disease .. drug addiction cant be cured and i know this girl shes a nice girl caught up with the wrong stuff. i was arrested with 40 bags of heroin and 7 bags of cocaine.. no intent to distrube. you know why? cause those 40 bags were mine and wouldve been gone in 2 days.. im now 13 months clean off everything. if u knew what N.A. and A.A. was you would understand its a disease.
