Retired U.S. Army Sgt. William Long, 62, of Leonardo was arrested Thursday by the Passaic County Sheriff's Office after a four-month investigation with an undercover detective he believed was a 12-year old girl, according to authorities, NJ.com reports. The article includes a photograph of Long.
Long is alleged to have used the Internet to try to talk the 'girl' into going camping and horseback riding with him, to not reveal their relationship from her parents, and to engage in sexually explicit chat, NorthJersey.com reports, citing information from the Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik.
Long was charged with two counts of attempted endangering the welfare of a minor and two counts of attempted lewdness to a minor under 13. Long was being held in the Passaic County Thursday on in lieu of $75,000 bail, with no ten percent option, according to the information distributed to the news sites.
Long was a member of the Leonardo First Aid & Rescue, one of five volunteer squads in Middletown Township. He is currently suspended, said Township of EMS First Aid Member Bob Pfleger.
