River Plaza Man Charged with Marijuana Offenses After House Search

A 29-year old man's activities was the focus of a monthlong investigation by police.

Middletown Police, armed with a warrant, searched a River Plaza house on July 7 and arrested a township man on charges he was dealing pot.

The resident, Ryan Miller, 28, of McClean St. was charged with possession of over 50 grams of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute over 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana within 500 feet of a public park, according to police.

He was held on $30,000 bail set by Judge Joseph Oxley of the Monmouth County Superior Court but has since been released.

Also charged was Liam McNerney, 19, also from McClean St. on charges of possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released pending a court date.

The investigation was conducted by Det. Keith Hirschbein, Det. Laurence Schachtel, Officer Donald Coates and Officer Anthony Dellatacoma.

Officer Chris Tuberion of the Union Beach Police Department and his K-9 partner Mako assisted in the search.

An arrest is not a conviction, and every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

What a waste of resources. A month's worth of police pay to bother a guy who wasn't hurting anyone. Let's follow Colorado's lead and do away with this nonsense.

I agree completely, Matt. I'd also like to know where there's a public park within 500 feet of McLean Street in River Plaza?

50 grams is not even 2 ounces, a pack of cigarettes is more than 2 ounces....
