Police Beat: On the Run for a Cause

Middletown police officers run for Special Olympics

Middletown Township police officers made their way down Route 35 early this afternoon, escorts in tow, doing their part in the NJ Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Law enforcement officers participate in several legs of the Torch Run throughout the state with all ending on the campus of the College of New Jersey this evening to kick off the NJ Special Olympics.

Officers from Middletown have participated in the run for more than 20 years. Today, as with each year, they received the torch from Red Bank Police officers on the Route 35 at the Cooper Bridge.

The Middletown officers carried the torch north on Route 35 to Palmer Avenue, where the torch is passed off to the Holmdel Township Police Deptartment.  Middletown runs Monmouth County's longest leg at a little more than five miles from Red Bank to Holmdel.

Retired Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti caught a few of the moments. This was the first. There are more to come as the officers get set to hand over the torch to Holmdel police participating. Many Middletown Patch thanks to Lt. Capriotti!
