Sears Robbery, Shoplifting Suspect Caught

When police conducted a routine motor vehicle stop recently, a Middletown man wanted for a July robbery and shoplifting ended up caught, arrested and charged

On Aug. 5 at 12:30 a.m., Patrolman Raymond Sofield conducted a motor vehicle stop on Delaware Avenue during which he arrested Joseph Defiglia, 33, of Delaware Avenue, Middletown, on the charge of a warrant for robbery that was issued after an incident that occurred at Sears, Route 35, on July 29, 2011.

Police say Defiglia had entered the Sears store, loaded a shopping cart full of merchandize and then attempted to leave the store without paying.

Store security tried to stop Defiglia at which point he allegedly pushed the shopping cart into the security officer causing a minor injury to his ribs and then fled the area.

Defiglia was charged with robbery and shoplifting.

He was held pending bail.
