Port Monmouth Woman Bitten By Family Pit Bull At Home

She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening puncture wounds, said police.

A woman suffered several non-life threatening puncture wounds from a dog bite on Thursday around 4:45 p.m.

The woman was taken by Fairview First Aid for treatment at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank.

The woman lives with her son in a house Hudson Avenue in Port Monmouth, and the son is the owner of the pit bull, said Middletown Police Sgt. James Prosinski.

The incident happened inside the house.

The son and the dog's whereabouts were not immediately known Thursday night, said police.

Middletown Township Animal Control will handle the case, said police.

Ugh. Are we going to have a slew of anti-pit bull comments? Let's see....
christine March 8, 2013 at 04:32 pm
UGH I hope not Jar..I have had and know people with Pits and they are the most loveable and loyal dogs ever! It is how they are raised..I believe any breed can be raised to be bad,it's the owners that are bad NOT the dogs!
Michelle Separovich March 8, 2013 at 04:46 pm
Of course we will see lots of pitbull hate here today. Many dogs bite. ex: my grandmother's miniture 5 lb poodle "princess" is a biter. All animals have the potential to bite and any dog owner can say that theirs doesn't bite...until it does.
NJarhead March 8, 2013 at 04:46 pm
I agree Christine. I've known a few myself.

It most certainly it's the people who raise these dogs. You do get people who want to make a quick buck and inbreed the dogs though. like people screwing family is not going to result in anything good
Shoregal March 8, 2013 at 07:33 pm
Not sure why anyone would want to own a dog that will attack even if unprovoked. Plenty of pits have been known to do this and the difference between a pit bull and a 5 lb poodle biting is that the pit bull can severely injure and kill people. No one has died from the bite of a 5 lb poodle.
NJarhead March 8, 2013 at 07:33 pm
HAHAHAHA!!!
Forgot about that scene.
NJarhead March 8, 2013 at 07:50 pm
Best of luck to you and your poodle.

I own a 3 year old pitbull. And he is the biggest baby. If you brake into my house,he'll help you carry the stuff out. Pitbulls are a reflection of their owners. If their treated well, they are the best dogs to own.
Sweetie Pie March 9, 2013 at 10:14 am
Yes, you are...because the great majority of people are rational, not sociopathically self-absorbed, not interested in terrorizing their neighborhoods or bullying anyone at all, and don't want their mothers, grandmothers, babysitters, children, neighbors' children, normal dogs, horses, cows, sheep, cats and so on MAULED OR KILLED just so we can have some kind of sicko attention-junky ego kick.
SMILE... You sound like you're getting tired of hearing sane people react and not admire but despise you.
Sweetie Pie March 9, 2013 at 10:15 am
What you *believe* isn't relevant to any adult discussion. Thanks though for being honest, it's only what you *believe* and nothing to do with reality.
pam hester March 9, 2013 at 03:35 pm
And you call yourself sweetie pie?is that what you *believe*...being a "relevant, realistic adult"??? Ready for an adult discussion? Hmm..........
christine March 9, 2013 at 03:55 pm
Sweetie Pie..No offense to you but what the Hell are you talking about??!! Dogs are just dogs until PEOPLE train them, that is all.
Sweetie Pie March 9, 2013 at 08:30 pm
Ypu pitty-patties have no idea how normal dogs behave. Well, I admit, you do know that pit bull type dogs are different -- it's why you only want a pit. But I have to laugh at your logic. So Darla Napora trained her pit bulls to kill her and her unborn child. Mix Master Bogart's babysitter trained her pit bulls to kill babies. Pit people everywhere are training their pit bulls to kill their grandmothers, their mothers, their neighbors, even themselves! Wow, that's some folk.

While anti BSL, pro pit advocates celebrate what they consider victories. We mourn another death of a innocent child. Thus far this year there have been 6 fatal dog attacks . In every one of these deaths only one breed (type) of dog has been the killer .The pit bull has been the only type of dog to take human life so far this year. Please Pray for the families and loved ones of the following . (Braxton Berchardt, 14 months old ) ( Ryan Maxwell, 7 years old ) (Isaiah Aguilar, 2 years old ) ( Esile Grace, 91 years old ) (Christian Gormanous, 4 years old ) (Betty Todd, 65 years old ) What kind of people find celebration while lives are lost. At this rate within the next 10 to 20 days We will be adding another innocent victim to this list. Please join Us to bring regulation that will reduce the mauling and killing.https://www.facebook.com/ProtectChildrenFromPitBulls

How evil is it to deny someone's death? Why? Cause they don't want any regulations on pitbulls or bad press.. so just deny, rationalize and make excuses as if THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT WORTH AS MUCH AS A DOG especially a pitbull dog, their god http://wqad.com/2013/03/05/pitbull-that-attacked-and-killed-little-boy-went-for-his-throat-then-his-face/ SEVEN PEOPLE DEAD!
Jaloney Caldwell March 10, 2013 at 12:46 am
But pitbulls do not bite. Thats the problem. They maul and go back after victims in sustained attacks. Are you denying now that they do more damage? Plastic Surgeons and hospitals will call you out on that. By the way this is not about HATE but about LOVE for innocent people who are never the same mentally or physcially after a life changing pitbull attack. Most pitbull victims that are adults suffer from lingering PTSD. There are tons of storys of children who will never go outside anymore after a pitbull attack. Taking someones body part, face, or a child's senes of security and ruining their child hood is heartbreaking. Dog bites are not a big deal. My daughter was bitten by a dog once as a child. We checked to make sure the dog had shots, cleaned the spot and that was it. The same cannot be said for survivors of pitbull attacks. They endure MULTIPLE surgeries, fears, scars that won't mend, and on-going pain and suffering. Comparing pitbull maulings to dog bites is like comparing Alcohol to KoolAid. Your worn out rehashed propaganda excuses are not cutting it anymore. There is no fad to promote any other breed because other breeds do not help dog fighters hide their bloody sport in plain sight. True advocates for animals want them banned to stop dog fighting and the overbreeding that results in over million pitbulls being euthanized each year by uncommitted owners.
Jaloney Caldwell March 10, 2013 at 12:49 am
NON lifethreatening injuries huh.. That means her heart is still ticking but she needs an ambulance, lots of stitches and possibly several surgeries.. The it's the owner not the breed mantra sounds logical but it's not. This repetitive slogan is illogical. Other dog breeds owned in much greater numbers have equal chances of getting neglectful and abusive owners, yet they adapt to human shortcomings and don't maul people or pets at anywhere near the rate that pitbulls do. Labs are routinely forgotten and chained in backyards and they are the most popular dog breed in America, Labs are not the top killers, pitbull are. Mortality, Maiming and Mauling by Vicious Dogs, Annals of Surgery, April 2011, is study of dog injuries in hospitals spanning the last 15 years. The study found that you have a more than 2500 times higher chance of dying if attacked by a pitbull;pitbulls are removing a humans body part every 4 days; cause the most disabitlity; longest hospital stays;most death; and highest medical costs. The statistics on pitbulls seriously harming people at a much higher rate than other dogs are overwhelming. You can't love out genes or untrain genes. Family owned and loved pitbulls can turn on a dime. If you believe that pitbulls are just like any other dog, and regurgitate the false "its the owner not the breed mantra" you might of believed the world was flat, too Just because something sounds good doesn't make it true. LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, don't own a pitbull

Because they follow fads, think it cant happen to them and don't care about others if it does, but mainly they have follow t.v. programs on UNreality t.v. like Pitbulls and Parolees that promote this dog. Of course the "stars" of t.v. shows are paid handsomely to peddle pitbulls (to protect wealthy dog fighters sport) just like t.v. stars were paid to peddle cigarettes. Some people are pawns for fads. You can't fix stupid.
Bill March 10, 2013 at 01:00 am
Any dog can be trained to bite but you must be able to control your animal first so the responsibility really belongs to the animals owner unfortunately they don't but him to sleep with his animal
GmbH March 10, 2013 at 03:05 am
Pitbulls are a sensitive breed and truly are a product of their enviroment. Not to mention they are the most abused, abandoned and neglected breed by owners who just want a "badass" dog. They are portrayed as something they aren't and mis judged by people who have never dealt with them but have read the medias smear campaign. Sheeple will always exist.
NJarhead March 12, 2013 at 04:42 pm
Oh Sweetie Pie, I don't own a pit-bull, not have I ever. But I do know that the breed thing is a myth and that irresponsible ownership and breeding is more to blame for the maulings and killings than anything else.
I'm a Lab guy, myself. What I'm tried of are uninformed opinions, like the one I'm replying to.
NJarhead March 12, 2013 at 04:42 pm
Sweetie Pie, ditto.

No doubt John. Best of luck with him.
Tony Solesky March 18, 2013 at 08:35 pm
If breed did not make a difference in a dogs behavior they would not be called and identified by their breed difference. Anyone who believe they can train a greyhound to be a fighting dog or a Pit bull to be a racing dog or anything in between know nothing about dogs and what dogs are why they have dog shows and breed papers and stud fees. Pit Bulls are a very dangerous breed just as Goldens are a very safe breed all and any dog can bite. few can and evey fewer will kill no matter how hard you train them and the fact that a Pit bull can be trained to kill is not a sign of a good breed the nest worst sign is a dog breed that if trained is good at it. Ban the Breed end the deed.
Elle Aichele March 21, 2013 at 09:28 pm
I am so glad to see that the uninformed here do not hesitate to drink the hater-aid! Tony Solesky, I used to manage a grooming & boarding facility AND we had quite a few very nasty goldens. Some even had to be muzzled. Why don't you ignorant pit haters try a little education. Geez....maybe they should ban STUPID!
