Brookdale Ranked Safest NJ College Campus

College police force singled out as exemplary and unique in honor

Brookdale Community College has earned the distinction of having the safest campus in New Jersey.

The honor comes from StateUniversity.com, a Web site that features comparative data on colleges and universities in the United States.

A Nov. 22 press release on the site explained that "school safety ratings at StateUniversity.com are based on campus crime statistics as reported by 450 of the largest U.S. colleges and universities. Each college's safety score, which can range from 0 to 100, is calculated based on the number and type of campus crime reported during the calendar year. The underlying statistics are compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

The police department at operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

" has the enviable benefit of a sworn-in officer police force," said James Sulton, the executive vice president of college's Administration Operations and Information Technology Services. "The officers that comprise this force are well trained educated professionals that nurture the safest collegial environment in the state."

In addition to the main campus in the Lincroft section of , security officers are on duty during times classes are in session and maintain security at all locations, including Freehold, Hazlet, Long Branch, Neptune, and Wall.

StudentUniversity.com has consistently ranked Brookdale Community College in the top 50 U.S. Community Colleges.
